China Upends UOIT in an Exhibition Showcase

OSHAWA, Ont. - The UOIT Ridgebacks women's hockey team welcomed the national team of China to the Campus Ice Centre on Monday afternoon. It what was a very entertaining match, China skated away with a 3-2 victory over the Ridgebacks.

"What a great experience and chance of a lifetime for everyone on the team," said UOIT head coach Karen Nystrom. "It was excellent exposure for our women's hockey program and the facilities we have on campus. It was also a good opportunity for China to continue to improve as they prepare for the 2014 Olympics."Tang Liang and Zhang Ben of team China were in on all three goals on Monday.
Liang had two goals and an assist including the game winner which came at 11:31 of the third period. Ben scored the first goal of the game and assisted on Liang's pair of goals.
Both of UOIT's goals came in the third period as Megan Steacy and Jill Morillo found the back of the netin the Ridgebacks comeback attempt.
Jessica Larabie and Emma Thompson split time in between the pipes for UOIT.
The exhibition game was a part of China's preparation for the 2014 Olympic Games. It was also UOIT's first competition against a women's hockey national team in the program's four year history.
The Ridgebacks will be back on the ice on Saturday, October 30 for Oshawa Lady Generals day against Brock. Game time at the Campus Ice Centre is 7:30 p.m.
